Thom Kerr captured these intimate portraits of Vincent Woolston - shot at Black HQ in Auckland - a few weeks before the magazine went to print.
"It was a special day for me to witness the beautiful friendship between Rachael, Grant (Black editors) and Vinnie. He brought his whole family to come visit and they'd travelled several hours from his hometown of Raglan to come have his portrait taken for the magazine. Which was a sign of dedication in itself! Witnessing everyone interacting, it's a collaboration that extends beyond just model muse and magazine. I sensed a real swell of love & friendship between them all. I'd always seen amazing images of Vinnie in various issues of Black so I felt it was a real privilege to work with him. I shot these images with my other Australian editor Justin Henry, and as we captured them he really chanelled for me movie stars of the past, like a young Clint Eastwood. I instantly understood why he is so special. And he was nothing but gracious and charming. It was fun creating this series with him and the memory of Vinnie and his family hanging out at Black Magazine HQ will always bring a smile to my face when I look at this series. A real moment to be treasured."
