Subversive, spiky and sensual, Karen Walker’s new collection of pearl jewellery answers the question: what happens when good girls give in to desire?
“We always want what is forbidden,” Karen says. “Eden came out of that sense of wanting what you shouldn’t. Pearls had somehow become out-of-bounds to us, this emblem of the establishment, and yet the essence of them was so devastatingly potent. All we did was play with that eroticism and possess them, make them dangerous again.”
Set in a barbed, silver carapace that is potentially capable of inflicting more harm than a delinquent’s switchblade, Eden’s new pearls embrace the ultimate conflict of good vs evil; each piece is as tough as it is pretty.
“It was time to reclaim pearls for a new generation,” Karen says. “To restore their status as the iconic marker of special moments, and to do it in modern terms.” Eden features earrings, rings and a pendant with large white and small black pearls. It’s available in sterling silver, yellow gold and rose gold.
The collection is available from March 1, 2018 in all Karen Walker stores, karenwalker.com and select boutiques, department stores and jewellers.
