As a publication long dedicated to championing diversity in the fashion industry, we at Black Magazine are thrilled to be among the many who welcome Ghanaian-American designer Virgil Abloh as Louis Vuitton’s newest Men's Artistic Director.
Initially rising to prominence as Kanye West's creative director, Abloh then made waves in the fashion world as a designer in his own right with his luxury Milan-based label Off-White, founded in 2013.
"It is an honour for me to accept the position of Men’s Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton”, says Abloh “I find the heritage and creative integrity of the House are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern times. This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams.”
With his first and highly anticipated menswear show to take place this coming June during Men's Fashion Week in Paris, it’s going to be exciting to see what Abloh’s innate creativity and disruptive approach will bring to this luxury brand.
Stay tuned as we travel to Paris for coverage of his debut collection.
