Famous in the local art community and amongst her peers for running her own “clubhouse” on Auckland’s K Road and a lover of all things Converse, this week we sit down with Gemma Walsh. Someone we believe the world needs more of!
What do I do and what are my passions?
I manage an artist run workspace/clubhouse on K Road called Strange Haven, I also cook vegetables under the name Plant Magic. I love books, running for long distances and broccoli.
Music you love?
I get obsessed with certain musicians/bands/genres and only listen to them for months on end. Currently it's beautiful female artists, notably Sharon Van Etten, Nina Simone andAldous Harding. Always Aldous.
What is the last book/thing/film you read, saw and enjoyed?
‘The Goldfinchby Donna Tartt, completely brilliant. It's highly probable I'd drop dead without books.
What does the world need more of?
What does the world need less of?
What hopes/plans do you have for the future?
At the moment I'm writing a plant based cookbook which is all consuming but in a way that fills my heart. After that I want to escape Auckland for a wee while to refuel and revaluate. I'd also like to run several marathons!
