Karen Walker SS15 at NYFW by Frances Carter and Thistle Brown

Time really is now

17 February 2015

Our beloved contributor team of fashion editor Thistle Brown and photographer Frances Carter recently relocated to New York at about the same time. Today they attended Karen Walker's SS15 New York Fashion Week show on behalf of Black Magazine and loved every moment of it. Words by Thistle Brown, all images Frances Carter....

Effortlessly nostalgic in true Karen Walker spirit, today we saw a return to Karen's love of Victoriana while still balancing a playful marriage between the artful and sartorial. Inspired by the 1970's time-travel series, Sapphire and Steel - Karen whisked us off to a place that captured the order and integrity of time, all the while being a beacon of chic. Elements of dandy ruffles, utilitarian denim and sheepskin coating provided the perfect recipe for the journey. As always, her signature eye for print was vividly present throughout collection, from a time-warped floral to a delicate take on television-static. The styling by fellow Kiwi - Kathryn Neale, gave us a diverse pallette of layered looks that no-doubt the KW woman will time-travel happily into next Fall. "Functional and strong does not exclude glam" - It sure doesn't for our friend Karen Walker.
